Short-lived reunion: Marumo Gallants and Dylan Kerr part ways

Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants have parted ways with head coach Dylan Kerr, just three weeks after the mentor returned to the club, FARPost has learnt.

This publication has established that Kerr’s resignation has been long coming after a few disagreements with the club’s hierarchy over a few issues ahead of the new PSL season.

The experienced coach was unveiled at the helm of Gallants earlier this month, marking his return to the club for a third time. His appointment was met with anticipation as he looked to guide the Limpopo side in its new era following the acquisition of the Moroka Swallows franchise. However, the brief reunion has proven to be short-lived.

WHY DYLAN KERR RESIGNED FROM MARUMO GALLANTS?

According to sources close to the situation, discord over player recruitment played a significant role in Kerr’s departure from Gallants. It is understood that the coach was dissatisfied with the club’s decision to sign players without his input.

An insider further told FARPost that Kerr had identified certain players he believed were surplus to requirements and had recommended their release. However, the club opted to retain these players against the coach’s wishes, leading to mounting tensions.

Further fueling the rift between Kerr and Gallants was the club’s interest in appointing Casric Stars’ coach, Sundra Govender. This move is believed to have contributed to the deteriorating relationship between the coach and the club management.

During an interview with a local publication earlier this month, Kerr indicated that Mpho Maleka was his assistant. But the club reportedly roped in Govender.

Maleka and Rodney Thobejane have since joined new Motsepe Foundation Championship side Leruma United for the 2024/25 season.  As previously reported by this publication, Leruma United is the club that has purchased Gallants’ NFD status.

Zimbabwean winger Daniel Msendami is the solitary new signing confirmed by Marumo Gallants to date.
