Gaston Sirino on the brink of Kaizer Chiefs move

Former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Gaston Sirino is reportedly on the verge of joining Kaizer Chiefs after agreeing to personal terms with the Soweto giants.

The deal now hinges on Sirino successfully passing a medical examination, which is expected to be a formality.

The 33-year-old Uruguayan, who holds a South African passport, could join the club on a free transfer after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sirino, a renowned dribbling wizard with a wealth of experience, is expected to add quality and depth to Chiefs’ attack. The club believes his presence will not only bolster their offensive capabilities but also serve as a valuable learning experience for their young players.

Having joined Sundowns in 2018 following a recommendation from club legend Esrom Nyandoro, Sirino enjoyed a successful stint, winning six league titles and several cup trophies. However, his playing time dwindled under Rulani Mokwena’s management, leading to his departure from the club.

Despite receiving offers from Bolivia, Chile, and North Africa, Sirino opted to join Amakhosi, citing his desire to continue playing in South Africa. He boasts an impressive record of 41 goals and 44 assists in over 200 appearances for Sundowns, showcasing his creative and attacking prowess.

Sirino’s signing would excite coach Nasreddine Nabi, who values technical players comfortable on the ball. The Uruguayan’s experience and skillset align well with Nabi’s footballing philosophy, potentially making him a valuable addition to the Chiefs squad.

This move would represent a significant coup for the Soweto giants, who have secured a proven match-winner in Sirino. His arrival is likely to inject renewed optimism into the club’s fanbase as they eagerly anticipate improvements under Nabi’s leadership.

WHICH OTHER NEW SIGNINGS DOES GASTON SIRINO JOIN AT KAIZER CHIEFS?

Left-back Bongani Sam was Chiefs’ first signing after he joined them from Orlando Pirates. They then signed Rwanda’s first-choice goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari, from TS Galaxy. Talented left-footed defender Rushwin Dortley became their third signing.

Following their 4-0 defeat to Young Africans in the Toyota Cup on Sunday, Nabi emphasised that the team’s primary focus is strengthening all areas of the squad. While Nabi acknowledged specific areas and players requiring improvement, he chose not to disclose details publicly out of respect for his players and to avoid unwanted attention from agents.

“The focus is on all three lines of defence, midfield and attack,” Nabi told journalists. “But I won’t mention the positions or players because I have to respect my players. I don’t want to have player agents bombarding my phone with messages.”

Kaizer Motaung Jr, the sporting director of Amakhosi, recently affirmed the club’s ongoing pursuit of new talent. “We’re definitely not done in the transfer market because there are some glaring positions in the squad that we need to reinforce.”

He further emphasised the need for a blend of experience and quality. “We have a young squad at the moment in time. I think it’s a squad that needs a bit of experience and a bit of quality. So, we are very mindful of the demands placed on what’s coming next season.”

He assured fans that the club is actively working to secure the necessary reinforcements.
