‘It didn’t make any sense’: Etiosa Ighodaro on AmaZulu FC loan move
Newly signed AmaZulu FC striker Etiosa Ighodaro has opened up on being loaned out by Mamelodi Sundowns once again for the upcoming season.
The Nigerian forward returned to Masandawana after the end of his loan spell with SuperSport United hoping to pull on his parent club’s shirt this season.
However, he finds himself in the kingdom of the Zulu with Usuthu, marking his fourth loan spell since joining the Tshwane-based club from Abuja College in 2021.
Ighodaro believes his performance isn’t the issue, claiming he can walk into any team.
IGHODARO BELIEVES HE CAN ‘WALK INTO ANY CLUB’
“For me, it’s not about me, I know I can walk into any club, I believe in myself,” said Ighodaro after he was unveiled by the Durban-based side.
“I don’t think it’s the performance that makes [them not to register me], it’s something else. They have their own plans for me, I also work hard for myself.”
Despite questioning the club’s decision to loan him out again, he admits he still dreams of donning Masandawana jersey.
“It’s a very big club to showcase myself in, I would love to play for Sundowns but it’s not something that’s in my power,” he added.
“It’s not my call but I need to keep trying.”
Ighodaro acknowledged that the decision to loan him out again was difficult but believes the club wants him to obtain permanent residency. He emphasised that there would be no reason for further loan moves after this season.
IGHODARO ON SUNDOWNS – ‘THE FOREIGN SPACE IS ALWAYS FULL THERE’
“I feel the reason for this loan, it’s something that they were able to convince me,” he continued.
“The foreign space there is always full because Sundowns. They have players from overseas, South America and everything.
“Okay maybe I should get my residency and play as a local. Like I said, at the end of this season, we will see what happens cause I have offers outside every time.
“It’s not just Sundowns that I’ll play for, my whole career.
“After this there will be no more reason [to loan me]. This decision to come here was a very, very tough one. It doesn’t make any sense.”
