Nabi points out Chiefs’ transfer market mistake
Kaizer Chiefs new head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has identified a critical misstep made by the Soweto giants in the transfer transfer in recent years.
Nabi took the coaching reins at Amakhosi over a month ago, tasked with reviving the club after a dismal 2023/24 campaign that saw them finish a lowly 10th on the league table.
The Tunisian tactician, renowned for his trophy-laden career across Africa, replaced Cavin Johnson. The latter had stepped in as interim coach following the short-lived tenure of Molefi Ntseki. The former Bafana Bafana coach was dismissed after a disastrous start to the season. This is highlighted by early exits from both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup.
Chiefs’ woes have extended beyond the league, with a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Young Africans in the inaugural Toyota Cup serving as a stark reminder of the club’s recent struggles.
Nabi’s challenge is clear: end the club’s nine-year trophy drought and restore Chiefs to their former glory.
WHAT DID NASREDDINE NABI SAY ABOUT KAIZER CHIEFS’ RECENT BUSINESS IN THE TRANSFER MARKET?
With Nabi outclassed by his former team, Yanga, he has admitted that Chiefs made ‘errors’ in the transfer market by signing players who did not deserve to play for the club.
Chiefs recently confirmed the signing of TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari and Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs. They also acquired the services of left-back Bongani Sam from arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.
“I’m very happy that I’ve got two new signings. They are needed in the team most. Definitely, I do respect what the office has offered [me] with the recruitments. However, the team still needs certain players from certain positions that will meet the expectations of Kaizer Chiefs, “Nabi said on SuperSport TV.
“The fans also need to know that this is not a quick transformation for the club to be strong. We will definitely be signing players that I will not mention, but they are in line.
“And the club has made some errors in signing players that were not needed. Players that were not the quality of Kaizer Chiefs. We need to be careful with the calibre of players we choose to meet the expectations.”
