Gaston Sirino spotted at Chiefs, contract details revealed

Former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Gaston Sirino was spotted at Kaizer Chiefs’ headquarters in Naturena to finalise a two-year deal with the Soweto giants.

The 33-year-old Uruguayan, who recently acquired South African citizenship, is poised to inherit the jersey number 10 previously worn by Keagan Dolly.

Sirino’s arrival at the club as a free agent follows his departure from Sundowns after a successful six-year stint, during which he clinched numerous titles, including six league championships, Telkom Knockout, MTN8, Nedbank Cup, and the African Football League.

Sirino reportedly agreed to personal terms with Amakhosi on Thursday, and his presence at the club’s headquarters – Kaizer Chiefs Village on Friday was for the finalisation of the deal. He has undergone a routine medical check before signing the contract under the guidance of head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Despite being eligible to play as a local player due to his South African citizenship, Sirino was allowed to leave Sundowns and was subsequently offered to both Chiefs and Pirates. Ultimately, he chose to join Amakhosi, a decision met with enthusiasm by the club’s supporters.

Sirino’s addition to the Chiefs squad is expected to bolster their attacking options significantly. His creative playmaking abilities and experience in the Betway Premiership are anticipated to make a valuable contribution to the team’s performance in the upcoming season.

SIRINO SET TO JOIN KAIZER CHIEFS

Sirino becomes the fourth signing for Amakhosi in the current transfer window. He joins Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates, Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs and former TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.

The club has made it clear they are not done with their transfer business as they look to back their new coach, Nabi. The Soweto giants are on a search for a winger after missing out on Elias Mokwana. They could still reinforce their defence with a fullback and a centre-back before the window closes.

Chiefs parted ways with central defender Njabulo Ngcobo and left-back Sifiso Hlanti. Edmilson Dove, who can fill in at left-back and centre-back, is out nursing an injury.
