Khama Billiat wins first award in Zimbabwe

Ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs attacker Khama Billiat has won his first-ever award in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The 33-year-old has been in blistering form for his current team, Yadah FC, where he has contributed nine goals in the 21 matches played so far.

Billiat returned to Zimbabwe earlier this year after spending over a decade playing in South Africa. Kaizer Chiefs were his last club, a marriage that, however, ended under unceremonious circumstances.

Attempts to find a new home in the SA elite league suffered a stillbirth, having trained with SuperSport United at some point. As such, he landed at Zimbabwean minnows Yadah FC where he has been a marvel to watch. This is his first-ever season in Zimbabwe’s PSL.

Billiat has given an excellent account of himself, along with Evans Rusike formerly with Moroka Swallows.

Rusike has scored four goals for Yadah FC but his contributions have been overshadowed by Billiat’s revival story.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs attacker Khama Billiat has won his first ever award in Zimbabwe's Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

THE FORMER KAIZER ATTACKER CHIEFS WINS JULY PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD IN ZIMBABWE

Deservedly, Billiat has won his first accolade in Zimbabwe. He was voted as the July Player of the Month. In July, Billiat scored three goals, with one assist under his belt.

In addition, he is a massive revelation as he is the joint leading goal-scorer with Caps United’s William Manondo, who also has nine goals.

With 13 games remaining in the 2024 season, Billiat is already a favourite to be among the season’s best eleven players.

He will hope to win as many awards in Zimbabwe as he did during his illustrious stint at Mamelodi Sundowns.

In the books of Sundowns, he accounted for three league title medals. He also helped them win the CAF Champions League in 2016 and a CAF Super Cup title.

At an individual level, he also won top awards that include the PSL Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season.

In 2016, he was voted as the Midfielder of the Season. He also finished as runner-up to Denis Onyango for the CAF African Player of the Year based in Africa award.
