Stellenbosch FC book MTN8 semi-final spot as they see off TS Galaxy

Stellenbosch FC have booked their MTN8 semi-final spot following their 3-1 win over TS Galaxy in the tournament’s second quarter-final tie at Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

SEAD RAMOVIC YET TO WIN AGAINST STELLENBOSCH FC

Galaxy’s head coach Sead Ramovic hasn’t won a game against Stellenbosch mentor Steve Barker.

Ramovic has drawn two matches and lost the other six games in the last eight games they have played.

TS GALAXY PLAYING IN THE TOP 8 FOR THE FIRST TIME

This was the first time the Mpumalanga-based outfit featured in the MTN8 competition in the club’s history.

As a result, Galaxy were the 33rd different team to play in the Top 8 in the PSL era [BP, SAA, and MTN].

GOAL-SCORERS ON THE DAY

Kamogelo Sebelebele broke the deadlock for the Rockets in the 18th minute of the showdown.

However, Bafana Bafana international Jayden Adams levelled matters seven minutes after the restart. Andre De Jong added to the scoreline four minutes before the half-time break.

Just 12 minutes into the second stanza, talented defender Fawaaz Basadien scored the third goal for Stellenbosch to make sure they buried the game.

RED CARD FOR MACBETH MAHLANGU

In the 88th minute of the game, MacBeth Mahlangu was sent off after receiving a red card. Galaxy finished the game one man short.

STELLENBOSCH FC BECOMES THE SECOND TEAM TO QUALIFY FOR MTN8 SEMI-FINALS

The Cape Winelands-based side became the second club to qualify for the MTN8 semis following their victory over Galaxy this afternoon.

Stellies joins Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals after the Buccaneers defeated SuperSport United with a 3-1 scoreline on Saturday evening at Orlando Stadium.

The other two semi-finals participants will be confirmed next weekend. Sekhukhune United will face Cape Town City at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, 10 August, whereas Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Polokwane City FC at home on Sunday, 11 August 2024.
