Why Dan Malesela hasn’t finalised his technical team at Gallants

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela has explained the delay in finalising his technical team and outlined his vision for the coaching staff.

Malesela swiftly returned to the Gallants’ hot seat last week, taking over from Dylan Kerr, whose short tenure lasted a mere three weeks.

The surprise appointment of Malesela came after Kerr’s resignation, which was triggered by disagreements over the club’s coaching structure and management processes.

Unlike in his previous stints at the club, the former Chippa United and TS Galaxy mentor has now gotten an opportunity to start pre-season with the club.

Gallants are yet to confirm the personnel who will be working with the 59-year-old. As FARPost had earlier reported Sundra Govender, Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jacob Mokhasi and physical trainer Dino Rangaka are some of the new faces expected at the club.

But Malesela says nothing has been finalised with regard to his support staff ahead of the new season.

WHO WILL FORM PART OF THE SUPPORT STAFF FOR THE HEAD COACH AT MARUMO GALLANTS?

“It’s not complete. Obviously, I found people already here. So I just want to assess the guys and see how we work,” Malesela told FARPost. “So far, within the three days, it’s looking good. But you need to be sure—you need to be really sure that you are working with the right people.’

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT FOR DAN MALESELA TO HAVE A TECHNICAL TEAM THAT SHARES THE SAME VISION

Malesela says it’s important that when you rope in people you get a team that would also take responsibility.

“The weakness in our country has always been the fact that sometimes we want to secure our jobs in funny ways. Without thinking about the bigger picture,” he added.

“You think less of the coach and things like that. So I am trying to also bring the culture to say, ‘guys, we must all be involved, and we must all take responsibility’. It must not be directed to one person. So I am hoping this time we will have the right people to work with.”
