Badra Sangare’s shares thoughts on Sekhukhune’s stiff goalkeeping competition

Goalkeeper Badra Sangare has shared his thoughts on the stiff competition he faces for the Sekhukhune United jersey number one.

Sangare stands out as one of the best goalkeepers in the Betway Premiership as he was one of the nominees for the Goalkeeper of the Season. He was nominated along with Sage Stephens of Stellenbosch FC and Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Williams was the eventual winner, as he also accounted for the PSL Footballer of the Season award.

Ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership, the Cote d’Ivoire goalminder is itching to write a new history by helping Babina Noko win some silverware. But the 38-year-old is the first to admit he faces stiff competition in his quest for silverware with Sekhukhune.

Last season, he missed a handful of matches for Sekhukhune. And when he was unavailable, Renaldo Leaner stood in his place.

However, this time around, it will be different after the club signed Namibian shot-stopper, Lloyd Kazapua. The 35-year-old was lured from Chippa United. Just like Sangare, Kazapua is also a national team player.

Speaking ahead of Sekhukhune United’s MTN8 Cup quarter-final clash with Cape Town City, Sangare said: “I’m a professional, competitive goalkeeper, and I am focusing on myself, giving my all for the team to win something.

“How much is he going to push me? I don’t know. I’m focusing on myself to do my job; other things, you never know. We have a very good goalkeeper’s coach who is pushing us to try and make progress, to perform, and to get more clean sheets like we did last season.

“For me it’s a good experience, it’s nice to play AFCON and in CAF, I believe this can take me far to win something for Sekhukhune United and write my ow story with this club.”
