Venda FC rope in Mamelodi Sundowns duo

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda FC have signed the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Keabetswe Ramotsei and Mzwekhaya Nkonxeni ahead of the new season.

The pair joins the Vhembe-based outfit from Bafana Ba Style’s Diski Challenge team. The duo helped Sundowns finish as the runner-up in the DDC last season, with Stellenbosch FC winning the league.

In the last term, Venda FC finished in position 12 in the SA football second tier, having collected 35 points from 30 games.

The acquisition of Nkonxeni and Ramotsei is part of the club’s strengthening of its squad for the upcoming season. The club aims to challenge for promotion to the Betway Premiership under the tutelage of Duncan Lechesa, who played a significant role in saving the club from relegation.

FROM PLAYING FOOTBALL IN THE STREET TO THE PSL

Ramotsei, who plays as a forward started playing football in the street of Meadowlands in Soweto. His football career blossomed when he joined Masandawana’s side where he made a name for himself. He joined Sundowns at the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

His stellar displays in the DDC earned him a call-up to the first team, where he made his debut in the Carling Knockout Cup TS Galaxy last campaign. He came on as a second-half substitute.

On his debut, Ramotsei played 46 minutes. Unfortunately, Sundowns lost the game 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw after extra time.

Meanwhile, Nkonxeni also put in a good shift for Sundowns, with his combination with Ramotsei causing upsets for other teams in the DDC.
