Why Sekhukhune are not worried about finding Mokwana’s replacement

Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo has revealed the reason why they are not yet worried about finding Elias Mokwana’s replacement at the club.

Mokwana recently joined Tunisian giants, Esperance Sportive de Tunis on a three-year deal. Deservedly, the 24-year-old was one of the most sought-after players after the end of the 2023/24 season.

And by choosing the Tunisian side, he snubbed Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns who also wanted his services.

Plausibly, Mokwana also had an impressive run that went on to help him earn a place in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana. He was so consistent for Sekhukhune United, contributing six goals and seven assists in 65 appearances.

His contributions undoubtedly made him a vital cog in the team, something that could be difficult to replace.

WHAT CAPTAIN MNTAMBO SAID ABOUT ELIAS MOKWANA’S REPLACEMENT

However, team captain Mntambo says they are not losing sleep on whether they can have someone similar to Mokwana.

Mnthambo reckons they played a crucial role in getting the best out of Mokwana, something he believes they can repeat from the current crop of players.

“It’s the nature of football. Players come in and go. Some leave for better opportunities, and some leave because their contracts are over,” Mntambo said.

“When it comes to Elias Mokwana, he has been exceptional for us in the past seasons. But what makes Elias the person that he is are the teammates. We are a team, and, most importantly, like I said some time back, we tend to look at an individual and forget that there is a full squad.

“We rather focus more on the eleven that start the game or the 20 that travel with the team. The guys that are left are good and exceptional, too. Iron sharpens iron at training. We make each other better. If we train hard and push ourselves every day at training, we make it easy on the match.

“I think Elias is honest enough; he knows that it’s because of his teammates and coaches that he finds himself where he is in Tunisia.

“He is going to be an ambassador for the country. If he does well, he will open doors there,”
