Danny Jordaan speaks on Mayo and Mokwana transfers to North Africa

SAFA president Danny Jordaan has spoken about the recent transfers of Bafana Bafana players Khanyisa Mayo and Elias Mokwana to North Africa.

Last season, both attackers showcased their talents in the now-rebranded Betway Premiership, delivering impressive performances that caught the attention of several clubs.

Mayo sealed a move to Algerian side CR Belouizdad from Cape Town City FC, whilst former Sekhukhune United star Mokwana snapped PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns to link with Tunisian giants Esperance FC.

In the previous campaign, Mayo had a fairly good season. In 31 matches in all competitions, he scored 11 goals and grabbed two assists in all competitions. On the other hand, Mokwana found the back of the net four times and provided five assists in 35 matches in all competitions.

Mokwana has two caps in Bafana colours; on the other hand, Mayo has earned seven caps in the senior national team.

The SAFA president is happy that the national team players are sealing some high-profile moves outside of the country. This will put the country on the map going forward.

“This is an international element of football; it’s a market force for us,” said Jordaan. “And I saw, [they left], Elias Mokwana just delivered a good performance and now he’s gone.

“We hope that they will be available when we need them to be here [for Bafana Bafana].”

Mayo and Mokwana are the latest SA players to head to North Africa. Other Bafana Bafana players that are based in Northern part of the continent include former Mamelodi Sundowns star Percy Tau. Tau is currently with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Another SA player in North Africa is striker Fagrie Lakay. The talented attacker plays for Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
