Former Kaizer Chiefs marksman Knowledge Musona is primed to join a new club in the Saudi Pro League, it has emerged.
Musona spent the 2023/24 season in the books of Al Riyadh after joining from Al Tai in July 2023. ‘The Smiling Assassin’, as he is affectionately known, earned himself a reputation as a dead ball specialist and assist master during his time at Al Tai in Saudi Arabia.
Last season, he managed four goals in 18 appearances. However the club was not keen on retaining his services following the expiry of his contract in July.
MUSONA IN TALKS WITH AL-AKHDOUD
It has emerged that the former PSL star is in talks with Al-Akhdoud. Talks are already at an advanced stage, and both parties are believed to be eager to seal the deal in the next seven days.
If the deal sails through, Al-Akhdoud will be Musona’s third club in the Saudi Pro League. He previously played for Al Tai and Al Riyadh.
Though he is in the twilight of his career, the 34-year-old has often turned the hands of time with some fine performances in the league. In addition he remains one of the most lethal strikers that graced the PSL, particularly at Kaizer Chiefs.
After joining the Soweto giants in 2009, he rose to stardom, winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2010. He accounted for the coveted Lesley Manyathela’s Golden Boot at the end of the 2010/11 season. That was after scoring 15 goals in 28 league games.
Until today, most Kaizer Chiefs strikers fail to step out of his shadow in terms of precision and goalscoring. The Naturena-based side has struggled to find a reliable marksman in recent years.
Musona’s impressive exploits helped him breakthrough into Hoffenheim in German. That was followed by a brief loan stint at FC Augsburg in 2012.
