Lebusa on why he believes Sundowns are ‘more dangerous’ under Mngqithi

Mosa Lebusa has dismissed suggestions that the recent technical team changes have made Mamelodi Sundowns vulnerable, explaining why he believes the club is ‘now even more dangerous’ with Manqoba Mngqithi at the wheel.

The shock departure of Rulani Mokwena to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca and the subsequent appointment of Manqoba Mngqithi as head coach sparked speculation about a potential decline in Sundowns’ dominance.

However, Lebusa has poured cold water on such claims, insisting that the Tshwane giants are stronger than ever.

Speaking with confidence that belied his calm demeanour, Lebusa poured cold water on such claims and painted a picture of a Sundowns side hungry for more, a team that has sharpened its claws during the off-season.

The 31-year-old centre-back highlighted Sundown’s relentless pursuit of excellence and their determination to maintain their stronghold at the top of SA football and mount a serious challenge for continental glory.

SUNDOWNS DEFENDER LEBUSA SOUNDS WARNING FOR RIVALS

“I don’t think there is any vulnerability in our play and in our team,” said Lebusa at Chloorkop as Sundowns were preparing for their 2024/25 season opener against Polokwane City FC in an MTN8 quarter-final tie on Sunday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The 2016 Champions League winners recently bolstered their technical team with the recent return of Steve Komphela as senior coach and the addition of Romain Folz as the assistant coach.

The duo join forces with Wendell Robinson and Kennedy Mweene, all under the astute leadership of Mngqithi, who is backed by Lebusa to succeed in the new season.

“He’s [Mngqithi ] been with so many teams, he’s got so much experience and even when he was the assistant coach he was giving us a lot of information.

“So I don’t think what the people are saying that we are more vulnerable now is true, so I don’t think that, I think we are now even more dangerous.”
