Mntambo opens up on Sekhukhune reunion with Monare
Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo has opened up on his reunion with his former Orlando Pirates teammate Thabang Monare ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Monare joined Babina Noko on a free transfer in June after parting ways with Orlando Pirates at the end of the previous season.
The holding midfielder signed a two-year deal with Sekhukhune, and he brings a wealth of experience, having won a handful of trophies with Pirates and Bidvest Wits.
Monare spent four seasons with the Soweto giants after signing from Bidvest Wits who sold their status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM] in 2020. In his stint at Pirates, the 34-year-old midfielder featured in 93 appearances across all competitions and scored one goal.
Meanwhile, the hard-tackling midfielder was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that won a bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
WHAT DID LINDA MNTAMBO SAY ABOUT THABANG MONARE?
While Monare struggled for game-time at Pirates last season, Mntambo has hailed the signing of the star, stating that Monare knows what to do.
Before reuniting at Sekhukhune, Mntambo and Monare played together at Jomo Cosmos and Orlando Pirates.
“Let me start with Thabang Monare joining us from Pirates, Thabang and I have a great relationship off the field. We played together at Jomo Cosmos and at Pirates,” Mntambo said.
“I think Thabang is a big boy; he’s been in the league for so many years. He knows what he needs to bring to the team. The other time, my colleagues were asking me what we could expect from him; I said you can expect nothing but 100% from a player of Thabang’s qualities.
“He knows what he needs to deliver, what his mandates are, and what he needs to do on the field. I don’t have problems with integrating him to the team, all he needs to do is to get to know his teammates.”
