Hyballa out, Seema reunites with Sekhukhune United

Following the abrupt departure of German mentor Peter Hyballa, Sekhukhune United appears to be on the brink of reuniting with former coach Lehlohonolo Seema.

The club parted ways with Seema at the end of June, paving the way for Hyballa to take over the reins. However, Hyballa’s tenure has been short-lived, prompting the club to revisit its previous coaching arrangement.

As reported by FARPost, Hyballa resigned from his position just six weeks into the job following an alleged sex scandal.

In addition Hyballa’s time at Sekhukhune was also marred by clashes with some players and staff members, creating a toxic atmosphere within the club.

The 48-year-old German coach was not on the bench when Babina Noko faced Cape Town City FC in the MTN8 on Saturday in Polokwane. McDonald Makhubedu was in charge as CT City emerged as 1-0 winners to book a place in the semi-final of the competition.

The club announced his immediate resignation an hour before midnight on Saturday.

“The Coach has just submitted his letter of resignation, citing pressing matters of a personal nature,” reads the club statement. “The Club has accepted his letter and wishes him well in his future endeavours.

“Meanwhile, Mcdonald Makhubedu will fill the position of Head Coach in an acting capacity until further notice.”

While assistant coach Makhubedu will take over the reins on an interim basis, the club has already identified Seema as a potential replacement.

WHY LEHLOHONOLO SEEMA IS LIKELY TO REPLACE HYBALLA?

The club reportedly felt Seema would easily adapt, having worked with the bulk of the players.

The former Orlando Pirates captain, Seema, was in charge last season, transforming Babina Noko into a competitive side. He found them in 14th place and left them third. They finished the season in fourth place.
Seema was on the radar of Richards Bay FC, who sought to replace Vusumuzi Vilakazi. However, the two parties could not agree on a deal. The KZN side went on to appoint Brandon Truter.

According to sources close to the two parties, Seema felt he had some unfinished business with the club. The club is expected to make an announcement on Seema in the next few days. He is believed to have signed a two-year deal.

Over the next four weeks, he will prepare the team for the newly branded Betway Premiership, which is set to kick off in mid-September.
