Knowledge Musona completes Al Akhdoud move

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Knowledge Musona has joined Saudi Pro League side Al Akhdoud after parting ways with Al Riyadh.

Musona’s one-year contract with Al Riyadh lapsed on 31 July when the 2023/24 season ended.

Before Al Riyadh, he had been on the books of Al Tai for two years, between July 2021 and July 2023. During his time at Al Tai, he carved a niche as a dead ball specialist and assist master in the Saudi league.

He, however, did not win anything significant at Al Tai as well as his most recent club, Al Riyadh. Last season, he managed four goals in 18 appearances. And Al Riyadh opted against renewing his contract.

Nevertheless, Al-Akhdoud quickly pounced on him for his services ahead of the 2024/25 Saudi Pro League.

Greater details of his contract have not been revealed. But Al-Akhdoud announced the Zimbabwean as their new player on X [formerly Twitter].

He will wear jersey number 11. As such, Al-Akhdoud become his third club in the Saudi Pro League having played for Al Tai and Al Riyadh.

Though he is in the twilight of his career, the 34-year-old will hope to turn the hands of time with some of his trademark goals when action resumes.

Plausibly, the Zimbabwean remains one of the few strikers that took the PSL by storm when he joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2009. He made a significant rise to stardom after winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2010.

He then won the coveted Lesley Manyathela’s golden boot at the end of the 2010/11 season after scoring 15 goals in 28 league games.

Until today, most of Chiefs’ strikers are yet to reach the level of precision he had during his time at the club. The Naturena-based side has been struggling to find a reliable gunman in recent years.

Musona’s impressive exploits earned him a breakthrough to Hoffenheim in Germany. That was also followed by a brief loan stint at FC Augsburg in 2012.
