Chippa United sign Malebogo Modise on permanent deal from Sundowns
Chippa United have secured the permanent signing of Malebogo Modise from Mamelodi Sundowns, FARPost has learnt.
The 25-year-old left-back enjoyed a fruitful loan period with the Chilli Boys in the previous season, having joined the team at the beginning of the campaign.
Throughout his time with the club, he featured in 17 matches across all competitions, contributing two assists.
After returning to Chloorkop at the conclusion of the last season, the Eastern Cape club expressed a desire to acquire him on a permanent basis.
Following a few weeks of discussions between the two clubs, the agreement for the transfer was reportedly finalised recently.
MALEBOGO MODISE LEAVES SUNDOWNS FOR CHIPPA UNITED AFTER ALMOST A DECADE
Modise has been attached to Masandawana for almost a decade, having come through their youth ranks. He spent the 2018 to 2020 seasons on loan at M Tigers, a feeder club for Sundowns.
After spending six seasons in the junior teams, he was promoted to the senior side just before the 2020/21 campaign under the guidance of Pitso Mosimane.
The versatile defender inked a five-year deal with the league champions after impressing in the DStv Diski Challenge. He spent his first season in senior football with Maritzburg United on loan.
He also had loan spells with JDR Stars [2021/22] and All Stars [2022/23]. Modise leaves Sundowns having not featured once in the Brazilians’ colours.
The club’s apparent satisfaction with its left-back options is believed to have contributed to his departure.
Masandawana currently have Terrence Mashego, Devine Lunga, and Aubrey Modiba to choose from in that position. Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil has also been deployed there on occasion.
OTHER SUNDOWNS DEPARTURES
Modise joins a growing list of players who have left Mamelodi Sundowns before the start of the new season. These include Bongani Zungu, Gaston Sirino, Brian Onyango, Thabiso Kutumela, Junior Mendieta, and Promise Mkhuma.
