CT City coach Eric Tinkler on potential new signings

Cape Town City FC coach Eric Tinkler has commented on the possibility of signing more players before the transfer window period closes next month.

The Citizens have been active in this transfer window, which is set to close on September 20th, 2024. The Cape club has made about 10 signings as it aims to challenge for major trophies in the 2024/25 PSL season.

Tinkler’s team snapped up quality players such as Haashim Domingo, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Fortune Makaringe, Carlinhos, Kayden Francis, Elson Sithole, Sibusiso Ziba, Lefa Aphane, Prins Tjiueza, to mention a few.

The CT City coach expressed his excitement with the acquisitions the club have made thus far and believes they will be able to guide the club to greater heights.

ERIC TINKLER ON CHANCES OF MAKING MORE SIGNINGS

The CT City mentor revealed that the chances of the club signing more players are slim because he believes that the team made enough acquisitions, something which the Citizens haven’t done since 2016.

He went on to state that the club may sign more players if other players from his side get offers elsewhere.

“I think we have signed more than enough. We made about 10 new signings. It’s massive for the club,” said Tinkler. “The last time we have done that was back in 2016 when we only had 11 players in pre-season. So, you should never say never because the window period is still open, and anything can happen.

“If one of our players gets a deal somewhere with a massive amount of money and then he leaves, it leaves a space. I still get calls from agents every day, sending me profiles of their players and foreign players, and I don’t have space for foreign players. I still say “no”, but they continue to send it.”

Tinkler continued: “However, I’m glad that they do because you don’t know what might happen, especially in the next coming weeks. But at the moment, we are not planning to make any signings.”

CT City started the new season on a positive note, qualifying for the MTN8 semi-finals after defeating Sekhukhune United by 1-0 in the quarter-finals at New Peter Mokaba Stadium last weekend.
