George Maluleka opens up about his future after AmaZulu’s exit

Veteran midfielder George Maluleka has opened up about his playing future following his recent exit from AmaZulu FC.

The 35-year-old’s time at Usuthu came to an end after a challenging season plagued by injuries, limiting him to just two starts in all competitions.

Maluleka, a seasoned campaigner with a wealth of experience in the Betway Premiership, is determined to continue his playing career despite the setbacks.

He remains confident in his abilities and is actively exploring opportunities with other clubs. “I’m a baller, I’m still a baller, I love football, I’m passionate about it. I’m still club hunting, and I believe something will come up,” Maluleka told Robert Marawa on 947.

“My agent is still out there trying to make sure we get the right deal. But I still have a lot in my legs, so I’m not about to hang the boots just as yet.

“I have always said I love this game so much. I think at this point in time, money is the last thing on my mind. I’ve always been on the field, and that’s where I want to be. So, I just want to play.”

He has affirmed his complete recovery and freedom from injuries, expressing his readiness to make a powerful comeback in the upcoming season.

“I’m fully recovered, and that’s one of the first questions I get a lot if I’m okay. But I’m okay. I have been training, and I have been seeing my bio [biokineticist] a lot more. He works specifically on those muscles, the specific muscles.”

GEORGE MALULEKA OPENS UP ON PAINFUL KAIZER CHIEFS EXIT

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder spoke candidly about his controversial 2020 departure from the club. His move to Mamelodi Sundowns during a crucial title race left many Amakhosi fans feeling betrayed.

Maluleka, whose contract was nearing its end at the time, revealed that the decision to leave wasn’t entirely his own. He expressed regret over the timing but emphasised that circumstances beyond his control led to his departure.

“I wanted to finish what I started [at Chiefs], which was win the league and then move, and that couldn’t happen, unfortunately. It was unfortunate [because] we couldn’t agree on terms,” he said.

Maluleka’s exit proved to be a turning point for the Soweto giants. The team struggled to maintain their lead in the league standings without him, and Downs capitalised on the opportunity, eventually clinching the title on the final day of the season.

He made 168 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing 24 assists.
