Ruzaigh Gamildien and Royal AM part ways over contract dispute
Veteran striker Ruzaigh Gamildien has bid farewell to Royal AM after failing to reach an agreement on contract terms with the KZN-based club.
The club had the option to extend Gamildien’s stay, but ultimately, financial constraints led to a parting of ways.
The 35-year-old’s journey with Royal AM began in June 2022 when he penned a two-year deal, with an option for an additional year. The move saw him depart from Moroka Swallows, where he had enjoyed two seasons.
Unfortunately, Gamildien’s departure coincides with a challenging period for Royal AM. The club is currently grappling with a transfer ban, which prevents them from acquiring new players.
Gamildien experienced a contrast in fortunes between his two seasons. In his debut season, he made a substantial contribution, appearing in 20 matches and registering five goals and an assist. However, his opportunities diminished significantly in the 2023/24 PSL season, where he managed only 11 appearances and a single goal.
A club source confided in FARPost, saying, “There was a prevailing feeling that he wasn’t in the coach’s plans for the upcoming season.”
WHAT PAVED WAY FOR RUZAIGH GAMILDIEN’S ROYAL AM EXIT
The financial aspect appears to have played a pivotal role in the breakdown of negotiations. Royal AM indicated that they were unable to meet the financial obligations outlined in the renewal option of Gamildien’s contract. This impasse ultimately paved the way for his departure.
As Gamildien embarks on a new chapter in his career, Royal AM will need to navigate their current transfer ban and focus on their existing squad.
Gamildien’s experience and goal-scoring prowess have reportedly attracted interest from a new club.
Meanwhile, Menzi Masuku has secured a new home with Golden Arrows following his departure from Royal AM.
The 31-year-old’s contract with Thwihli Thwahla expired in June, marking the end of his tenure with the club since their acquisition of Bloemfontein Celtic’s status in 2021.
