Stellenbosch to host CAF CC prelim round 2nd leg at Moses Mabhida

FARPost has established that Stellenbosch FC will play their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round second leg against Nsingizini Hotspurs at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The first leg will also be hosted by the Eswatini side at the same venue on Saturday, 17 August, with the return leg scheduled for 24 August.

Concerns about the condition of the Danie Craven Stadium pitch surfaced following the World Rugby U-20 Championship held in the Western Cape. The stadium, along with DHL Stadium and Athlone Stadium, hosted matches during the tournament.

Meanwhile, Stellies head coach Steve Barker previously cited prolonged rainfall as one of the contributing factors to the bad state of the pitch.

Speaking to the club’s media department about playing at the Moses Mabhida, Barker stated it works in their favour because they know the venue well.

STEVE BARKER ON PLAYING AT MABHIDA STADIUM

“It’s nice that obviously you know we have played at Moses [Mabhida Stadium], we know Durban well, we know the stadium well, so that does, in a sense help us but you know the opposition they’ve also worked hard,” said Barker.

“They would have the same sentiment as we have, they’ve put in a whole season to get into this position. They seem to be a team that’s really ambitious, wanting to do well, they have camped in South Africa, played at Moses and that shows that they are serious.”

Should Stellenbosch advance to the next round, they will come up against AS Vita of DR Congo in the second preliminary round. The first leg of that match of those matches will be played between 13-15 September with the second leg taking place between 20-22 September.
