Chippa United coach gives update on sought-after Stanley Nwabali

Chippa United assistant coach Thabo September has given an update on the club’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who has reportedly been in demand after the 2023 AFCON.

The 28-year-old was said to have attracted interest from both domestic and international clubs after his stellar performances for the Nigerian team at AFCON in Ivory Coast earlier this year.

Nwabali, instrumental in Nigeria’s run to the final of the continental showpiece, was reportedly on the radars of Queens Park Rangers and Al Ettifaq, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Locally, he was linked with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

However, September says the former Enyimba shot-stopper still remains with the Chilli Boys ahead of the 2024/25 season.

He asserted Nwabali is keen to continue donning the Chippa United colours in the upcoming campaign provided he does not secure a better move during this transfer window.

THABO SEPTEMBER ON THE FUTURE OF STANLEY NWABALI

“We all want Stanley to go to the next level, forward to the bigger things,” said September in an exclusive interview with FARPost.

“That’s why he plays so good, so that he can get a bigger move. From the management, the chairman, and us as coaches and players, we want that to happen.

“But at the moment, he’s here with us, and he’s a professional. He’s working for that moment, and when that moment happens…He’s being a professional and training well, and if that doesn’t happen, he’s looking forward to playing in the PSL for Chippa United.

“But me as a coach I don’t know if there’s anything on the table. I’m not going to be like everyone else; that’s gonna be like there’s something here and there.

“On my side, I don’t know anything that’s on the table. But all I want is good things for him, I want the best for Stanley because he deserves it, he has done well.”
