‘A lot is expected from him…’: Chirambadare on ex-Sundowns star

Edmore Chirambadare has revealed the weight of expectations on Gift Motupa’s shoulders as Magesi FC prepares for their maiden season in the Betway Premiership.

Motupa joined Magesi FC from Motsepe Foundation side Baroka FC, where he had a brief stint after he parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns.

At Baroka, the 29-year-old did not feature much before leaving midway through the 2023/24 PSL season.

He is one of the highly-rated signings that were unveiled by Magesi FC for their maiden Betway Premiership season.

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota is also among the club’s new signings for the upcoming season. Magesi gained automatic promotion to the SA top-flight after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship title last campaign.

WHAT CHIRAMBADARE SAID ABOUT MOTUPA AHEAD OF MAGESI’S MAIDEN IN THE PREMIERSHIP

In an interview with FARPost, Motupa’s teammate, Chirambadare, said the team’s striking formula is hinged on the former Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits marksman.

“He is a top striker. I watched him during his time at Mamelodi Sundowns; I even played against him,” Chirambadare said.

“I’ll be honest. He is good at what he does, and that is why he is automatically the backbone of our strike force as a centre-forward. He can also play as a midfielder.

“Because of his experience and exposure, a lot is expected from him. If we can’t score, then we will be unable to achieve anything. But as teammates, we are not putting pressure on ourselves.

“We want to be realistic with ourselves both in terms of the goals we score and what we want to achieve throughout the season.”

Motupa is eager to reinvent himself at the modest club, Magesi FC, under the tutelage of Clinton Larsen.

His versatility and veritable goalscoring abilities make him a perfect fit in Larsen’s arsenal as they look to make a lasting impression in their maiden.

According to Transfermarkt, Motupa has played in 103 Premiership matches, with 26 goals under his belt.
