Baroka demands newly-signed Chippa player to return ‘home’
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC say they were puzzled to see their ‘player’ Boy Madingwane being unveiled by Chippa United without their knowledge ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Madingwane was a standout performer for Baroka during the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship season. His exceptional skills and contributions were instrumental in the team’s quest for promotion back to the top tier of SA football.
Although Baroka ultimately fell short in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs, Madingwane’s performances left a lasting impression.
The 22-year-old was recruited by Baroka after his impressive showing during the Kasi tournaments and played for the club in the second round of last season. He has also played for the SuperSport United DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side.
Madingwane was used as a right-back or a right-winger under then-coach Dan Malesela. He caught the attention of a number of teams. But Chippa eventually won the race to sign him on a three-year deal.
CONTRACT DISPUTE BETWEEN BAROKA FC AND BOY MADINGWANE
But the move to Chippa has not gone unchallenged by the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka. The Limpopo side has not issued Chippa with a clearance as they claim that Madingwane still has one-year remaining in his contract.
Baroka stated that Madingwane’s initial deal was a six-month with a one-year option. But the player and his camp have disputed this and subsequently took the matter to the PSL DRC on an urgent basis.
Madingwane is disputing the contract and insists Baroka might have tempered it to suit them. He also wanted the PSL to order Baroka to issue Chippa with his clearance so that he could be registered for the new season.
FARPost has since established that the matter sat before the PSL in July but was struck off the roll.
KHURISHI MPHAHLELE ACCUSES CHIPPA UNITED OF PLAYING AMATURE TACTICS TO SIGN ‘THEIR PLAYER’
“Boy [Madingwane] is our boy. He has a contract with Baroka FC,” said Khurishi Mphahlele.
“He must come and honour that contract. If Chippa wants the Boy, they must come and negotiate. I sent him [Chippa Mpengesi] a letter that if he wants Boy, he must feel free to come and negotiate with us. He is not a free agent.
“They never contacted me or anybody. It’s amateurish because Chippa has my number, and we know each other well. I don’t know why he is doing that to us,” he said.
“I sent them about three letters when we realised that the team is reopened and the player is not here and we heard the rumours that he is with Chippa. I sent Chippa the letter as well to notify him that the boy still has a contract. I am really disappointed with the way Chippa is handling this matter.”
Efforts to solicit a comment from Chippa United were unsuccessful.
