Maduka reveals Royal AM goals this season amid transfer ban’s tough life

Royal AM head coach John Maduka has outlined the club’s ambitions for the upcoming season, despite the ongoing challenges posed by their transfer ban.

Thwihli Thwahla have been unable to sign new players since being sanctioned for failing to pay R12 million to former striker Samir Nurkovic.

In the past three transfer windows, they have only waved their goodbyes to the players who have left.

Despite their inability to reinforce his squad, Maduka insists that Royal AM remains determined to achieve significant success in the 2024/25 campaign.

He has revealed that the Pietermaritzburg-based side aims to finish the season within the top eight.

“We’re an ambitious team, yes we have a problem that we can’t sign players but whenever go there we wanna be in that top eight,” said Maduka.

“Like, if we achieve something, it would mean a lot to me and the team.

“So, it’s very important for us to work with limited resources that we have and make sure that we take the team to another level.

“Yes, not easy but that will be able to give us experience going forward.”

Meanwhile, Maduka is hopeful that the club will benefit from the young players promoted from its junior teams.

“We’re hoping that we have a good season as you know that we didn’t have a good one last season,” added Maduka. “So, it’s very important for us to prepare well.

“You can see having more young players that we have introduced into the team, it’s very important that with the experienced players we have, they must guide the young players.”

Royal AM will begin their Betway Premiership campaign with a home fixture against Cape Town City FC on Saturday, 14 September, at Harry Gwala Stadium at 3 pm.
