Tanzanian star Gadiel Kamagi joins Chippa United

Tanzanian defender Gadiel Kamagi has inked a one-year deal with Chippa United, ending speculation about his future.

Kamagi, who spent the last season at Cape Town Spurs, made a name for himself as a key player despite the club’s relegation.

Kamagi had been linked to Simba SC, Sekhukhune United, CT Spurs and Richards Bay FC after his impressive performances in the SA elite league in the colours of ‘The Urban Warriors’ last season.

Despite CT Spurs’ unfortunate relegation, his impact in the final third was undeniable. Under the tutelage of Ernst Middendorp, he scored two crucial goals and provided two assists in 11 second-round matches.

His defensive prowess was equally impressive. During his five months in the DStv Premiership, he averaged 1.5 interceptions and 1.5 tackles per game, further solidifying his reputation as a reliable defender.

His composure and reliability were highlighted by his impeccable record of never making a mistake that led to a shot or goal.

The 27-year-old’s performances at Spurs showcased a versatile player with offensive and defensive capabilities.

Chippa’s acquisition of Kamagi signals their ambition for the upcoming season. The club has made several other signings during the current transfer window. Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Andile Jali is their biggest signing of the window.

They also acquired the services of winger Giovanni Philander [FN Rangers], Aphelele Teto [on loan from Livingston FC], attacker Thobani Jacobs [Pretoria Callies], winger Sifiso Mazibuko [Jomo Cosmos], defender Blessing Jali [Maritzburg United], and midfielder Xolani Sithole [Pretoria Callies].

Chippa will be hoping to improve from what they had achieved last campaign as they finished 12th on the DStv Premiership log standings with 34 points from 30 outings.

‘The Chilli Boys’ will start the new season with a clash away from home against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 14 September 2024, at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
