AmaTuks sign ex-Sekhukhune goalkeeper to replace Edward Maova

Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks have completed the signing of ex-Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Ntokozo Mtsweni to replace Edward Maova.

Following his impressive performances in the previous campaign, Maova moved to greener pastures, signing with the Betway Premiership side Golden Arrows ahead of the new 2024/25 season.

The Namibian international has been instrumental for Tuks as they pushed for promotion to the SA top-flight. AmaTuks finished the 2023/24 season as runners-up behind Magesi FC, who won the league title and gained automatic promotion to the Premiership.

Last season, Maova made 27 appearances in the league for the University of Pretoria, helping the club concede the least number of goals in the Championship. Tuks conceded 22 goals the whole of last season.

Meanwhile, AmaTuks have also lost key players such as Delano Abrahams, Sikhosonke Langa, and Thabang Sibanyoni. The trio completed top-flight moves after joining Magesi FC, Sekhukhune United, and Richards Bay FC, respectively.

On the other, Tuks have welcomed Siyanda Msani on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and Kgomotso Mosadi from Sekhukhune United to fill the gaps left by the departed players.

MTSWENI PEN A DEAL WITH AMATUKS ON A FREE TRANSFER

With Tuks looking to push for promotion, they snapped up Mtsweni on a free transfer. The shot-stopper parted ways with Sekhukhune during the current transfer window.

Mtsweni joined Babina Noko at the start of the 2022/23 season from the Limpopo-based side Venda FC. While at Sekhukhune, Mtshweni was starved for game-time after playing second fiddle to Badra Ali Sangaré.

In the previous campaign, the 29-year-old made only two appearances across all competitions at Sekhukhune.

Mtshweni will compete with Ayanda Dlamini, Tshepo Mamabolo, and Jayden van der Walt for a starting place in Tuks’ goalkeeping department.

The former Venda FC keeper will be hoping to make it into the starting line-up when AmaTuks face Cape Town Spurs in the first match of the campaign at Tuks Stadium on Sunday, 25 August 2024. Kickoff is at 15h00.
