Thabo September reveals what surprised him about Chippa Mpengesi

Chippa United assistant coach Thabo September has revealed a surprising aspect of club chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi that many people may not be aware of.

The former SuperSport United defender was appointed as a co-coach with Kwanele Kopo at the beginning of the year.

Kopo has since been promoted to being the sole head coach with September demoted to an assistant role.

After six months with the club, September has been impressed by Mpengesi’s football acumen.

He says the chairman always provides insightful post-match analysis, not as a boss but as a passionate football enthusiast.

SEPTEMBER ON WHAT MANY MAY NOT BE AWARE OF ABOUT CHIPPA MPENGESI

“The chairman likes to see good football being played on the pitch,” said September during the interview with FARPost.

“He understands football and when we lose, he would come in and talk about how well we played in terms of football and you will be like, ‘Is this the same chairman that people have been telling me about?’.

“He understands the game, and when he speaks, as much he is the owner but he speaks from the side of football.

“And he tells us what his opinion was in terms of the game. He’s always really on point about his analysis after the game.”

September added that they have been tasked with maintaining Chippa United’s top-flight status next season.

In addition, they are required to promote talent from the Eastern Cape to the senior team.

KOPO AND SEPTEMBER’S MANDATE THIS SEASON

“Definitely to retain the status and that’s key for the club and for us as coaches as well,”

“So, that’s one mandate that will always be there. Yeah, other than that, to promote players and make sure we develop players from the Eastern Cape.

“Bring them to the first team and make them household names in the country. That’s a good mandate.”
