Bradley Grobler highlights SuperSport United’s underrated strength

SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler has highlighted what he believes is an often-overlooked aspect of the club’s operations.

Despite being labelled a “selling club,” SuperSport has consistently maintained a competitive edge in the Betway Premiership. The Tshwane-based side has consistently finished in the top eight, showcasing their enduring presence in the league.

With a strong ambition to compete on the continental stage, ‘Matsatsantsa’ have aimed to participate in CAF competitions each season. However, their aspirations fell short last season as they narrowly missed out on continental qualification, finishing seventh in the league standings.

Grobler, a mainstay at SuperSport for many years, believes that the club’s ability to nurture and produce top-quality talent from within their ranks is often underestimated.

GROBLER SAYS SUPERSPORT DESERVES MORE CREDIT FOR YOUTH PRODUCTION

The 36-year-old goal-poacher believes that SuperSport is not given enough credit for the young talent they keep producing season after season. These players include the likes of Ime Okon, Shandre Campbell, Thapelo Maseko, Bilal Baloyi, Neo Rapoo, Aphiwe Baliti, Yandisa Mfolozi, Thabang Mahlangu and Lucky Muthewi.

But ‘The Spartans’ have lost academy graduates like attackers Campbell and Maseko, who impressed a lot. Recently, the club CEO Stan Matthews and coach Gavin Hunt hinted that they might lose defender Ikon to a team in Belgium this season.

“To this stage, I still don’t think SuperSport United is given enough credit for the number of youngsters they have produced and are going to other teams,” said Grobler. We had many youngsters last year. They might have been a bit raw, but it’s up to the coach and us senior players to help them.

“There is no doubt the ability is there as a player; sometimes it’s exciting to have young guys like that. I love helping players; I love getting the best out of players. It’s so exciting for the team.”
