Golden Arrows’ Knox Mutizwa sets ambitious target

After a forgettable 2023/24 season, Golden Arrows striker Knox Mutizwa has set an ambitious target in the upcoming Betway Premiership season.

Mutizwa had a below-par 2023/24 season, scoring three goals and registering four assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.

And in truth, his goal return in the previous season is a far cry for a striker of his calibre, having raised the bar high after becoming the club’s all-time top goal-scorer.

WHAT MUTIZWA IS TARGETING IN THE 2024/25 BETWAY PREMIERSHIP

This time, the 30-year-old aims at least to be among the top five goalscorers in the Betway Premiership. In an interview with FARPost, Mutizwa revealed his target for the upcoming season.

“Last season was something else for me, and even the team struggled at some point. I did everything that was there to do, but it was not to be,” he said.

“It was so disappointing for me. I must admit that a lot is expected of me and everyone else. But last season, nothing really clicked. This time, we have pushed hard in pre-season. We have all done well in the friendly matches played so far.

“I feel the renewed energy; hence, being in the top five goalscorers is the least I look forward to achieving.”

MUTIZWA COMMENTS ABOUT THE CHANGES AT ARROWS

Moreover, Mutizwa commented on the coaching changes that happened at the Durban-based club. Last season, they exchanged hands from Vusimuzi Vilakazi to Steve Komphela and are now under coach Mabhuti Khenyeza.

Mutizwa said: “That did not affect us at all as players, considering that coach Mabhuti Khenyeza was always here. Like everyone, we would have wanted continuity, but it’s still basically the same because the coaches we have were always here.

“We believe in them the same way we believed in the previous coaches, which is why we have targeted a better season. It has been two seasons without taking part in the MTN8. It’s unlike us, so we are aiming to end that record and hope that we can improve.”

Golden Arrows are scheduled to kick off their 2024/25 Betway Premiership season with a date against Stellenbosch FC next month.
