Zambian international Cyril Chibwe reveals why he returned to SA
Zambian international Cyril Chibwe has revealed why he returned to South Africa following his departure from Zesco United in the Zambia Super League.
Chibwe parted ways with Zesco in July this year, having joined them in February 2022 after cutting ties with Baroka FC.
Following his two seasons at Zambia Super League side, the talented goalkeeper has since joined Limpopo giants Black Leopards for the 2024/25 campaign.
In Mzansi, the 31-year-old also represented teams such as Garankuwa United, Polokwane City FC, Jomo Cosmos, and the now-defunct Platinum Stars.
CYRIL CHIBWE ON WHY HE IS BACK IN SOUTH AFRICA
Chibwe, who was born in Rustenburg to Zambian parents, stated that he felt it was the right to return to South Africa after his successful stint with Zesco.
The Chipolopolo shot-stopper insists that he has played his part in helping Zesco get back in the CAF Champions League, which he has achieved, hence his decision to return to South Africa.
“I felt like I had done my part in Zambia. So, I wanted to take the team back to the Champions League,” said Chibwe in a recent interview with FARPost.
“I got there, and I did my part. Now, the team went back to the CAF Champions League and I’m happy to have achieved that.
“So, I felt I needed to get back to South Africa and do my business back here. Leopards was the perfect team to join and continue with my football career.”
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM CYRIL CHIBWE?
Chibwe went on to explain that he is more determined to help Lidoda Duvha challenge for promotion to the Betway Premiership and guide the youngsters within the club “in the right position.”
“This season, you can expect more hard work and more determination. I want to help the team as much as possible and guide the young ones because there are a bit of youngsters within the team,” he added.
“So, we need to guide them in the right position. You know, just tell them that it’s just nine months, and you sacrifice, and your life changes. Therefore, it’s up to us to guide them to improve their game and the betterment of the team.”
