Aubrey Modiba’s sound advice to Sundowns new signing Asekho Tiwani
Mamelodi Sundowns star Aubrey Modiba has shared sound advice with the club’s new signing, Asekho Tiwani, following his big transfer move from Sekhukhune United.
Tiwani signed with ‘The Brazilians’ in the current transfer window after an impressive breakthrough season in Sekhukhune colours.
The talented youngster was promoted from Babina Noko’s DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side to the senior team in the 2023/24 season. In his rise to prominence, Tiwani featured in 16 appearances in all competitions, scored two goals and provided one assist for Sekhukhune’s first team.
The left-back won the hearts of the Sekhukhune United supporters when he scored a goal from his own half against Cape Town Spurs last season. The goal was subsequently named Goal of the Month in April.
With Tiwani, the SA U-20 captain, proving to be one of the best young players in SA football, Masandawana moved swiftly to snap him up on a long-term contract.
WHAT DID AUBREY MODIBA SAY ABOUT ASEKHO TIWANI?
His new teammate Aubrey Modiba revealed that it won’t be easy for the starlet to break into the team. However, he’s confident that Tiwani has a bright future.
“The advice I have for Asekho is just to keep on working, he’s still young, he’s got a bright future ahead of him. And obviously, it won’t be easy in a team like Mamelodi Sundowns,” Modiba said.
“I think you just need to have the right mentality; even when things are not going your way, you just stay positive and wait for your chance.
“And when you get the chance, you grab it with both hands and you don’t give it to anyone else, I think that’s what works here. You add value to the team, that’s what I can say, and I think he has the right mentality. I see him every day doing recovery, he’s got a good lifestyle, he’s not a captain [ for SA’s U20 team] by mistake.”
The 18-year-old will compete with Modiba, Terrence Mashego, and Devine Lunga for the left-back position at Downs.
