Hugo Broos names Bafana Bafana squad for AFCON qualifiers
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named his final squad for the CAF 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan next month.
South Africa are drawn in Group K alongside Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda in the AFCON qualifiers.
Broos’ charges will take on Uganda in their first game of the qualifiers on Saturday, 6 September 2024 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. The game will start at 18h00.
Bafana will then face South Sudan on Tuesday, 10 September 2024. The kickoff time is set for 15:00.
The two top nations from the group will qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament, which will be held in Morocco. The tournament is set to start from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
Coach Broos announced his 38-member preliminary squad for the AFCON qualifiers a week ago. On Thursday, the Belgian coach trimmed it to 23.
The 15 players who have been left out of Broos’ final squad are Ronwen Williams [Mamelodi Sundowns], Bruce Bvuma [Kaizer Chiefs], Thabiso Monyane [Orlando Pirates], Given Msimango [Kaizer Chiefs], Athenkosi Mcaba [Stellenbosch FC], Terrence Mashego [Mamelodi Sundowns].
