Hugo Broos’ take on Nasreddine Nabi after coffee chat

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos candidly shared his thoughts on Kaizer Chiefs’ new coach, Nasreddine Nabi, following a recent meeting with the former AS FAR mentor.

Broos, taken by surprise upon learning about Nabi’s presence in the same building, was quick to express his admiration for the new Chiefs coach.

“When I came back from Belgium, I didn’t know he was living in the same building as me,” Broos recounted. “Someone from Kaizer Chiefs came to me and said, ‘Coach, the coach [of Kaizer Chiefs] wants to speak to you’. He was sitting there, and he was drinking coffee.”

This unexpected meeting led to a conversation between the two coaches, leaving Broos with a positive impression of Nabi. “I think he’s a very good coach,” Broos stated. “I think when you see what’s happening at Chiefs, it’s a different thing.”

WHAT HUGO BROOS THINKS ABOUT NASREDDINE NABI’S ASSERTIVE NATURE

Amakhosi have been busy in the transfer market, making several acquisitions to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season. They have signed Miguel Inacio from Petro de Luanda, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Gaston Sirino, Bafana Bafana defender Rushwin Dortley, Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates and Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy.

Broos believes Nabi’s assertive nature will be instrumental in his success at Chiefs. “He wants what he wants,” Broos observed. “It’s maybe a little bit easier for him to achieve that in Chiefs because it’s not easy to be a coach of Chiefs. And I think it’s not so easy for a South African coach to slam on the table and say, ‘I want that’.”

The Bafana coach is optimistic about the future of Chiefs under Nabi’s leadership. “It’s not normal that a team like Chiefs is seven or eight in the league. It’s not good for South African football.”

Broos hopes to see the Soweto giants back in contention for the title next season, battling it out with the likes of Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, and Stellenbosch FC.

“This is a big progression that happens for South African football and not the dominance of one team like we’ve seen in the last [seven years],” he concluded.

Chiefs start their campaign on 14 September against Marumo Gallants at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. Nabi will be hoping for a positive start as he officially starts his tenure at the helm of ‘The Glamour Boys’.
