Kaizer Chiefs secure scouting coup with Tera Maliwa signing

Kaizer Chiefs have secured a scouting coup after successfully luring long-term Mamelodi Sundowns scout Thembela ‘Tera’ Maliwa to Naturena.

The revered scout has announced his departure from the defending South African champions after resigning earlier this week.

FARPost can reveal that Maliwa is set to join Amakhosi as their chief scout, spearheading the club’s recruitment efforts moving forward.

This strategic acquisition is seen as a positive step for Kaizer Chiefs, as Maliwa brings with him a wealth of contacts across the continent and internationally.

He has earned a reputation for identifying and nurturing some of the top footballing talents in South Africa, making him a highly respected figure in the scouting community.

Maliwa’s journey in scouting began at Ajax Cape Town, where he’s credited with discovering numerous young stars, including Mamelodi Sundowns’ stalwart defender Rivaldo Coetzee. His keen eye for talent led him to work with some of the world’s biggest clubs, such as Ajax Amsterdam and Heerenveen, before he eventually joined Sundowns a few years ago.

TERA MALIWA’S MESSAGE TO THE SUNDOWNS FAMILY

At Ajax, Maliwa’s role extended beyond scouting. He also served as a youth coach, working with promising players like Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams, Luke Le Roux, and Tashreeq Matthews, who is now at Sundowns.

His multifaceted experience undoubtedly adds another layer of value to his new role at the Soweto giants. Maliwa’s departure from Sundowns after seven years was announced on Wednesday with a heartfelt farewell message:

“Thank You, Mamelodi Sundowns FC. It’s tough to say goodbye after seven unforgettable years at the club. It has been a pleasure to be a part of the Mamelodi Sundowns football family for this long,” he wrote.

He further thanked the club’s management, the Motsepe family, and the passionate Masandawana fans. The experienced scout also emphasised the profound impact his time at Sundowns had on his life.
