Mashego highlights concern about Sundowns’ technical team

Former Mamelodi Sundowns player Katlego Mashego has highlighted his only concern about the club’s technical team. In the 2024/25 campaign, Masandawana are led by Manqoba Mngqithi after the departure of coach Rulani Mokwena. Mngqithi will work closely with Steve Komphela and Romain Folz.

Despite playing two MTN8 matches, Masandawana’s performances have been lacklustre, suggesting the team is facing challenges. In the quarter-finals, they narrowly won 1-0 against Polokwane City FC and it was an own goal in extra-time. Then on Wednesday, the Tshwane giants suffered a 1-0 defeat against stubborn Stellenbosch FC in the semi-final, first leg. The return leg of the competition will be played on Sunday, 1 September at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Masandawana will be participating in many tournaments this season and have the depth to help the team perform and achieve their objectives. These competitions are namely; MTN8, Betway Premiership, Carling Knockout Cup, Nedbank Cup, CAF Champions League and the African Football League [AFL].

The ex-striker, ‘Mahoota’, believes the technical team shouldn’t alter the team’s established playing style or try any experiments. He advises them to stick with what has been working.

“It’s only two games but the supporters are not happy. I think they [coaches] should continue with how the team have been playing,” said Mashego.

“Change is good, but I don’t think they should change anything, that’s my only concern. The team should carry on like that.

“It’s still the same team, it’s the same players. Obviously, there are a few faces which is a good thing, but there must be continuity.”
