Keagan Dolly opens up on SuperSport signing Pule ahead of him
Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs attacker Keagan Dolly has opened up on SuperSport United opting to sign Vincent Pule ahead of him.
Dolly is a free agent after parting ways with Chiefs at the end of last season following his struggles with injuries that kept him out of the matchday squad.
The former Bafana Bafana international spent three seasons with Amakhosi after signing at the start of the 2021/22 Betway Premiership season.
In his stint at Kaizer Chiefs, the left-footed star scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 67 games across all competitions.
After his exit from the Soweto giants, Dolly looked set to complete a move to SuperSport in the current transfer window. The experienced midfielder had completed his medicals to put a pen on paper at Matsatsantsa.
However, the deal fell through in the last minute after SuperSport decided to sign Vincent Pule who worked with the head coach Gavin Hunt at the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
Pule became a free agent after leaving the Buccaneers last month. The speedy winger spent six seasons with Pirates after joining the club in 2018.
WHAT DID KEAGAN DOLLY SAY ABOUT SUPERSPORT UNITED FAILED MOVE?
With Dolly seemingly finding it difficult to find a new club, the 31-year-old has admitted not signing with SuperSport was disappointing.
“So the club first wanted to make sure that I’m injury-free and I’m healthy. So they send me to do a medical and it came out clean, all injuries were healed,” Dolly said on MSW.
“The team Doctor was happy and he sent the report to the club, it just came down to the club going for Vincent Pule.
“Coach Gavin is a great coach with a lot of experience and he worked with Pule before and it’s part of football. Coaches want players they’re comfortable with and they know personally.
“And for me there is no hard feelings, it’s part of football, sometimes you get the team and the coach wants to work with you, and sometimes the deal just doesn’t go your way.
“I was little disappointed but also I thought maybe there’s something elsewhere and at this point of my life, I want a place where I can start enjoying football again.”
