Lyle Foster opens scoring account in English Championship

Bafana Bafana star Lyle Foster opened his scoring account for Burnley FC in the English Championship on Saturday afternoon at Turf Moor Stadium.

Burnley played a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers as they continue their fight to return to the English Premier League. The Clarets were relegated from the English top-flight last season following a poor run.

They are without a win in the league in two matches. In their last league match, they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Sunderland. In the second round of the EFL Cup, they were beaten 2-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Already this season, Foster had grabbed an assist. It was on the opening day of the league as Burnley defeated Cardiff City 4-1.

In addition, Foster will be part of Bafana Bafana squad that will face Uganda and South Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in September.

LYLE FOSTER SCORES HIS FIRST GOAL OF THE SEASON

The former Orlando Pirates striker found the back of the net as early as 10 minutes into the match. The goal poacher connected very well with Jaidon Anthony’s cross, and his header hit the back of the net.

However, Burnley failed to preserve their lead as the visitors equalised in the 23rd minute after Austrian forward Andreas Weimann levelled matters.

The scoreline remained unchanged for the remainder of the first half as both teams failed to convert their opportunities and score. In the second half, the scoreline also remained unchanged as the two teams settled for a draw.

The stalemate left Burnley sitting fourth on the log standings, with seven points from four matches.

Up next for Lyle Foster and Co. is an away match against Leeds United. The match will be played on Saturday, 14 September at Elland Road. Foster will be aiming to continue from where he left off and add to his goal tally.
