Jose Riveiro reflects on Thabiso Sesane’s progress at Pirates
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has reflected on the progress of talented defender Thabiso Sesane at the club.
Sesane has been one of the standout performers for Pirates since he was given an opportunity last season to represent the club. Previously, the Pirates academy graduate was sent out on loan to now-defunct All Stars FC in the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
Upon his return, the 24-year-old made 11 appearances in all competitions last season, and all the matches were towards the end of the season.
In all the five matches he has played in this campaign [MTN8 and CAF Champions League], the centre-back has impressed, and his partnership with Nigerian defender Olisa Ndah has been solid.
JOSE RIVEIRO COMMENTS ON THABISO SESANE’S PROGRESS
Riveiro says Sesane is doing so well because he’s playing regularly now. He’s been consistent in his performances and is surrounded by good teammates each time he’s playing.
In the heart of Pirates defence, there are talented, experienced defenders like Olisa Ndah, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Sandile Mthethwa and Thapelo Xoki who are currently injured. “He’s playing; that’s the big change; he’s playing regularly; that’s why you are asking me about Sesane. If somebody else is playing, then we’re going to change the name,” said Riveiro.
“The key is to be on the field constantly, it means you’re doing well during the week, you are in good shape, good space etc.
“When the competition comes, you are at a level that Orlando Pirates needs, and that’s the case. Obviously, as much as you play, the confidence grows, and winning and clean sheets help a lot for them.
“He’s surrounded by excellent football players as well, in the front, left, right and behind. In the end, we try to be a team that looks good, but the key is to be a collective.”
