Baroka chairman Mphahlele summon technical team to ‘crucial’ meeting

The Baroka FC technical team led by coach Morgan Mammila has been summoned to a ‘crucial’ meeting by chairman Khurishi Mphahlele on Monday following poor results in the second-tier league.

Baroka have collected a single point from their first two matches since the beginning of the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

The club suffered a 4-1 loss to Upington City FC on Saturday. They were held to a 1-1 draw in their first league match against Orbit College FC.

Baroka are one of the favourites for promotion to the Betway Premiership after coming close during the playoffs last season. Head coach Morgan Mammila had promised to collect at least 60 points from 20 wins.

However, the former Chippa United mentor is now under fire for failing to get points in the first two games of the new season.

Baroka chairman Mphahlele has confirmed that he will have a meeting with the rest of the technical team on Monday to find a way forward. But he denied that they were contemplating getting rid of Mammila when this publication asked what the meeting is about.

CHAIRMAN KHURISHI MPHAHLELE CONFIRMS A MEETING TO ADDRESS THE POOR RESULTS

“Yes, there is a meeting today [Monday] with the technical team to find a way forward,” Mphahlele told FARPost.

“No, firing [Morgan Mammila] is not part of the discussion. The meeting includes Morgan and the rest of the technical team. We need to find out what is wrong because the results are not coming. I have not met coach Morgan. I was at a white wedding the whole of Sunday,” explained Mphahlele.

“We are not happy with the results, of course. So maybe they must tell me what is wrong and how we can improve. These are not good results.”

During the unveiling of the new players, Mphahlele indicated that the mandate for coach Mammila was to gain automatic promotion by winning the league. As it stands Baroka are third from bottom with a single point.
