Cape Town City’s Luphumlo ‘Kaka’ Sifumba eyes move to Portugal’s FC Vizela

Cape Town City FC’s prodigious teenager, Luphumlo ‘Kaka’ Sifumba, is set to embark on a trial with Portuguese side FC Vizela. This comes hot on the heels of a recent trial with Armenian first-division club FC Van.

The youth international jets out to Portugal this week, where he is set to be assessed. The club, relegated from the top-tier league a season ago, are fighting to get back to the top-flight.

Affectionately known as ‘Kaka’, the 19-year-old midfield sensation burst onto the scene during the 2022/23 season, clinching the prestigious DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season award.

His stellar performances earned him a promotion to the Cape Town City senior team, and since then, the young star has been consistently linked with a move abroad.

Last season, Sifumba made 12 appearances in all competitions for The Citizens under Eric Tinkler’s tutelage. Now, he’s poised to take the next step in his career by venturing into European football.

Sifumba’s talent has not gone unnoticed, with multiple clubs vying for his signature during this transfer window. However, none have yet met City’s valuation of the player.

Among his suitors are a Premier Division team from Saudi Arabia, Albanian side Skenderbeu FC and Dubai United. Despite the diverse range of options, Sifumba’s agent and mentor, Steve Makhaluza, is reportedly leaning towards a move to Portuguese side FC Vizela.

WHY FC VIZELA PRESENTS A PROMISING FUTURE FOR LUPHUMLO ‘KAKA’ SIFUMBA

FC Vizela, a Portuguese professional football club based in Vizela, Braga District, was founded in 1939. The club currently competes in Liga Portugal 2 and plays its home games at the 6,100-capacity Estádio do Futebol Clube de Vizela.

Vizela boasts a rich history, having clinched the Taça de Campeão Nacional in 1966. The club primarily participated in the Campeonato de Portugal during its formative years and joined the Braga Football Association in 1940.

This abundance of offers presents a pivotal moment in Sifumba’s young career. He will need to carefully weigh his options and select the path that best aligns with his development and ambitions.

A move to FC Vizela could provide Sifumba with the ideal platform to showcase his talent on the European stage and continue his upward trajectory in the world of football.

CT City places a high value on Kaka, a technically gifted attacking midfielder renowned for his passing, assisting, and creating space for teammates. Within City’s development squad, Kaka was lauded as a ‘coach’ and leader on the pitch, possessing a keen eye for goal.

The Cape Town side’s decision to bestow the iconic No. 8 jersey upon Kaka, previously worn by club legends Teko Modise and Lebo Manyama, speaks volumes about their belief in his immense potential.
