Gavin Hunt addresses Lepasa’s transfer links with SuperSport United

SuperSport United head coach Gavin has addressed transfer reports linking Zakhele Lepasa with his club for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

Lepasa has seemingly fallen out of favour at his club Orlando Pirates after struggling to break into the starting lineup towards the end of last season.

The Bafana Bafana international had a bright start to the previous campaign after scoring 10 goals in the first-round of the season.

However, Lepasa has since fallen down the pecking order under the guidance of Jose Riveiro at Pirates. Riveiro has preferred Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso at Pirates in the striking department.

Mabasa returned from his loan stint from Moroka Swallows in the 2024 January transfer. Upon his arrival at Pirates, Mabasa has proven his scoring ability. ‘Sniper’ has scored a number of goals to help his side win the 2024 Nedbank Cup and finish as runners-up behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the league.

HUNT ADMITS THAT SUPERSPORT ARE SEARCHING FOR A STRIKER

With the transfer window closing in the next few days, Hunt has admitted that SuperSport United are searching for striker.

Matsatsantsa recenty suffered a huge blow after the talisman Bradley Grobler sustained an injury that will keep him out of action for five months.

SuperSport also lost Etiosa Ighodaro who was on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. The Nigerian international has joined AmaZulu FC on loan.

“I read about that in the media [Zakhele Lepasa’s possible move to SuperSport] but we need some strikers,” Hunt told the media.

“We lost Ighodaro and Bradley, they gave us 20 goals last year, where are we gonna get 20 goals? We need a striker and obviously work permits are a problem. There should be a law where everybody get these work permits at the same time.

“Other people get it [quicker] and others don’t, they should make it like in Europe where everyone gets their work permit at the same time.”

Meanwhile, Lepasa who had a loan stint with United in the 2022/23 season is yet to feature for Pirates in all their five games thus far in the CAF Champions League and MTN8.
