Cavin Johnson on why Kodisang could soon make Bafana return
Former Kaizer Chiefs Head of Academy Cavin Johnson has explained why he believes Mamelodi Sundowns forward Kobamelo Kodisang could soon make a return to Bafana Bafana.
Kodisang joined Sundowns this transfer window from Portuguese club, Moreirense. The 24-year-old skilful winger inked a five-year deal with the Tshwane-based club.
He made his inaugural appearance for the Brazilians in their 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC during the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal.
Johnson feels that with Sundowns serving as the backbone of Hugo Broos’ squad, Kodisang has a significant chance to be considered again by the 2017 AFCON winning-coach.
The league champions have been dominating the Bafana squad since the Belgian coach assumed leadership of the South African national team.
Kodisang has one Bafana cap having featured when they drew 0-0 with Namibia in the international friendly in September last year.
CAVIN JOHNSON – WHY KOBAMELO KODISANG STANDS A CHANCE TO RETURN TO BAFANA BAFANA
“Look, Hugo Broos has got it there, he picks a lot of players from Sundowns,” said Johnson during the interview with FARPost.
“If Kodisang goes on to play for Sundowns, I’m sure he will get selected. They play good competition, they’re always in CAF, they’re always [doing well] in league games.
“So, in saying that, yes I think Kodisang with his credibility, he’ll be able to make himself available for Bafana Bafana. Hopefully, he does well at Sundowns.”
Johnson commended Kodisang’s return to Sundowns, noting that the striker will have the opportunity to participate in major competitions.
In addition to the local competitions they will play this season, Sundowns will also compete in the CAF Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and African Football League.
‘KODISANG DIDN’T COME BACK FROM OVERSEAS TO A NORMAL TEAM’
“He was doing well in Portugal, he has come back now, not to a normal team but came back to Sundowns,” he added.
“I’m sure he’s been away from home for quite a while for a few good seasons.
“He’s coming into the Sundowns team that will give him a lot of work to do to prove himself.
“He’s been doing well in Portugal, so having him back is a good thing. Let’s see what he does.
“Hopefully he gets the opportunity to play at Sundowns.”
