Ex-Chiefs striker points out one key element central to Nabi’s success at Amakhosi
Ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Kelvin Mushangazhike has revealed one key element he believes will make coach Nasreddine Nabi thrive at the club.
Nabi appears to have got the buy-in of most of Chiefs’ yesteryear players who believe he is the right man to help the club reclaim their glitz and glamour.
The Soweto giants have gone nine years without winning a trophy. Last time out, they ended the season in 10th place, a far cry from what their faithful expected.
With Nabi at the helm, there is so much hope for better strides. The Soweto giants have already brought in seven exceptional signings during this transfer window.
But their search for more attacking firepower continues as they particularly need a lethal striker to address their goal-scoring woes.
Furthermore, as preparations for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership continue, Mushangazhike, who has been keenly following Chiefs, has noted a peculiar element key to Nabi’s prospects at the club.
WHAT THE EX-KAIZER CHIEFS STRIKER SAID ABOUT NABI
Mushangazhike commended Nabi for sticking to his trusted lieutenants, whom he came along with to Chiefs.
However, Fernando Da Cruz shockingly set to leave his post as his Chiefs’ assistant coach to join the Morrocan FA.
With Da Cruz on his way out, Nabi is currently backed by another assistant coach, Khalil Ben Youssef. Ilyes Mzoughi is the goalkeeper coach, while Safi Majdi serves as the strength and conditioning coach.
“The best decision he made is to recommend his preferred technical team. At a club like Chiefs, you must always have your autonomy as a coach. They can all have a common goal: to survive longer in the team. That will bring success,” Mushangazhike told FARPost.
“Having a local assistant coach around has its own advantages, but it has often resulted in accusations of sabotage. Nabi is a top coach and a lot of coaches have more to learn from him. His technical team set-up helps him maintain order and avoid divisions.
“So, at this point, he got rid of potential backroom staff sabotage and infighting. He is backed by his own people. They understand him. It’s a very important element that clubs must be ready to accept. Look at how Pitso [Mosimane] did while at Al Ahly.
“He was backed by his compatriots. They won the CAF Champions League and league titles together. He went to UAE and Saudi Arabia with his men. Rulani[Mokwena] has also done the same at Wydad [Casablanca].
“They [Pitso Mosimane and his technical team] got Al Ahli Saudi promoted, and that’s exactly what comes from teamwork. So I think it’s that element which will help him [Nabi] thrive as a coach because he has managed to remain autonomous as a professional.”
