Kaizer Jr reveals Chiefs made better offer for Mokwana than Esperance

Kaizer Chiefs’ sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, has revealed that ‘Amakhosi’ made a better offer for Elias Mokwana than what Esperance de Tunis put on the table for his signature from Sekhukhune United.

The Bafana Bafana international joined the Tunisian side in August 2024 after an impressive season with ‘Babina Noko’ in the SA elite league.

Mokwana, 25, featured in 35 games across all competitions for Sekhukhune in the last term. In those 35 matches, he contributed four goals and weighed in with five assists.

The talented winger has been one of the players that were targeted by the Soweto giants, Chiefs, ahead of the new season as ‘The Glamour Boys ‘look to strengthen their squad.

Motaung Jr has since come forward to clear the air on the club’s failure to secure Mokwana’s deal. He went on to state that he met Sekhukhune chairman Simon Malatji on several occasions to try to seal the deal.

Motaung Jr put it on record that the Soweto giants made a better offer, but the player decided to join Esperance after extensive negotiations.

“We had extensive negotiations with Mr. Malatji from Sekhukhune United. I met him numerous times and submitted a written offer, but it was what they were asking for,” said Motaung Jr on Radio 2000 on Thursday evening.

“We were even granted permission to talk to the player. The player even agreed on personal terms. I wouldn’t go too much into the details of the Esperance offer that they [Sekhukhune] were given, but we know what we put on the table was excessive of what Esperance put on the table.”
