Kopo weighs in on Chippa’s dispute with Baroka over highly-rated youngster

Chippa United head coach Kwanele Kopo has weighed in on the club’s dispute with Baroka FC over the signature of the highly-rated youngster Boy Madingwane.

‘The Chilli Boys’ announced the signing of Madingwane from the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka two months ago.

However, ‘Bakgakga’ claimed that Chippa signed the utility player without their knowledge. Madingwane signed a three-year contract with the Gqeberha-based outfit after producing impressive performances in the 2023/24 campaign.

The 22-year-old, who plays right back and right winger, was instrumental in Baroka’s push for promotion to the Betway Premiership last season.

Baroka, along with AmaTuks, lost in the PSL Promotional/Relegation playoffs to Richards Bay FC, who retained their top-flight status.

Recently, Baroka charmain Khurishi Mphahlele demanded that Madingwane returns to his club as he claims the starlet still has one year left on his contract.

WHAT DID KWANELE KOPO SAY ABOUT BOY MADINGWANE?

With the matter now with the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber [DRC], Kopo says he wishes the case could be resolved so the player could start life at Chippa.

“I think the case is still sub judice, but boy is training with us. We are aware of what’s happening, and I think it’s in the final stage,” Kopo said.

“We haven’t really spoken about it or made comments about it. I think even now, respectfully, we don’t want to go into details.

“So we await the outcome. He’s an exceptional young talent that we are interested in, and we want to sign him.

“But we believe, amongst the pool of players, he’s one that’s got a lot of potential to show in South Africa. Hopefully, his case can be resolved positively for us and we can find a positive outcome for him to play professional football and play for Chippa United.

“He’s an exciting player, he’s been injured in the last week. He didn’t really feature in any of the games in camp but he’ll resume training this week because he’s been cleared medically.

“Hopefully, by the time the league starts, the issue of his signature or registration would have been resolved and we know if he’ll feature for the club or not but he’s one player we would like to keep at the club.”
