‘I was misinterpreted’: Vusumuzi Vilakazi clarifies ‘I’m not there to stay’ remarks

Coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has clarified the odd statement he made last week following AmaZulu FC’s 0-0 draw with Orlando Pirates in a DStv Diski Challenge[DDC] tie.

In a post-match interview, Vilakazi stated that he is “not there at AmaZulu” in the DDC to stay for long, as he is “going somewhere.”

However, the former Golden Arrows and Richards Bay FC mentor has come forward to clarify his remarks, citing that he was misinterpreted.

Vilakazi was speaking after Usuthu’s another 0-0 draw with newcomers Magesi FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI EXPLAINS HOW HE WAS MISINTERPRETED

The AmaZulu reserve side coach revealed that there was a video posted on social media that was not complete and did not fully explain what he meant by his comments.

“The thing is, there was a shared video, and they did not upload a full video. Hence I was misinterpreted,” Vilakazi.

“So, what I was saying is that people were asking me how I feel, do I feel demoted or something? I said to them, ‘No’, I don’t feel demoted. I have a role to play right now in the DDC, and I’m happy to be in the DDC.

“However, as an ambitious person, I would love to go to the highest level and continue with my coaching career. But for now, I’m very much happy here in the DDC.”

HOW VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI IS SETTLING IN AT AMAZULU FC

‘Kanu’, as he is well known, went on to reveal how he is settling in at AmaZulu, just two weeks into his new job as the club’s DDC coach.

“I think it’s a work in progress, considering the fact that I only spent two weeks with the team. So, there are lots of things that need to be done. But so far so good with performance and commitment,” he added.

“When you look at the team, last season they conceded 66 goals. So, we needed a balance because even the scoring rate wasn’t satisfying. I think they scored 30 goals, and you can simply say one goal per game, which is not enough.

“Now, I’m in the process of trying to balance it in terms of having a defensive structure that is very strong and offensive play.

Vilakazi continued: “I think our offensive play is much better, and we are creating a lot of scoring opportunities, but we still need to work on our finishing because there are lots of chances we didn’t convert them.

“But so far so good, if you look at the team last season they were struggling. This season is much better, and in two weeks, you see such a performance. Then it’s promising that you will give us a few more, and you will see the best of AmaZulu.”
