Miguel Inacio explains why he chose Chiefs over bigger North Africa offers
Angolan defender Miguel Inacio has revealed why he snubbed bigger North Africa offers to join Kaizer Chiefs. Inacio recently joined Amakhosi from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda.
He is one of seven signings the Soweto giants have signed to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. Chiefs also signed Bongani Sam, Njabulo Blom, Bradley Cross, Gaston Sirino, Rushwin Dortley, and Fiacre Ntwari.
Newly appointed Amakhosi coach, Nasreddine Nabi, is known to be an admirer of the versatile Inacio, who can also fill in at right back and central defensive midfield.
Interestingly, the highly rated centre-back’s reasoning goes beyond the pitch, rooted in the club’s stature and long-term vision.
The 28-year-old didn’t mince words when describing his new home. “Kaizer Chiefs is a different team, there is no comparison in Africa in my opinion.” For him, the PSL club’s magnitude, development structures, and organisation rival those he experienced at Braga in Portugal, a testament to Chiefs’ enduring appeal.
While lucrative offers beckoned from North Africa, Inacio emphasised his motivations lie elsewhere. “If I want money, I would not come to South Africa,” he stated frankly. Instead, it’s the “exciting project” and promising future at Chiefs that captured his ambition.
MIGUEL INACIO EAGER TO MAKE AN IMPACT
Inacio’s eagerness to contribute is palpable. “I want the league to start tomorrow because I want to play,” he declared, ready to give his all under coach Nabi’s guidance.
Despite recent setbacks, Inacio refuses to underestimate Chiefs’ potential. “I don’t agree when you say the league [title] is not an objective when you’re at Kaizer Chiefs,” he affirmed. The defender firmly believes in the club’s ability to reclaim its position as a dominant force in South African and African football.
Nabi’s charges start the 2024/25 campaign with a tie against Marumo Gallants at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. Kick off is 17h30.
