An assurance Nkanyiso Zungu gave to Pretoria Callies boss

Pretoria Callies boss Moses Malada revealed a one-on-one conversation he had with Nkanyiso Zungu before making the decision to sign the former Orlando Pirates midfielder.

The ex-Pirates and Stellensch FC star, Zungu, has made headlines in the past with issues of ill-discipline off the field.

This has resulted in the 28-year-old parting ways with some clubs, including the Soweto giants and Richards Bay FC.

He spent the last season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship at Platinum City Rovers, who were relegated to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League.

While top-tier clubs seem to be no longer interested, the former Pirates player got another lifeline from second-tier league side Callies, based in Tshwane.

“I doubted signing him for the longest time. But after having a chat with him, he promised to work hard and said he wanted a new chance. But so far, so good. He has done very well compared to stories that people were saying.”

“He is in the camp with other players and is not looking for special treatment. He is training very hard and always encouraging youngsters to pick up on his training. So, let’s see how he spends his season. But he has been more impressive.”

Meanwhile, Malada has also explained the recent visit by the club icon Lucas Moripe during one of the league matches.

“He requested that he wants to meet the players and also met the new coach,” explained Malada.

“But his message was that he would wish to see Callies back in the Premiership. It’s what he believes Callies belongs to, and that would make him the happiest man ever if Callies were promoted while he could still see the team at that level.”
